Possibly the best Second Empire Victorian residence remaining in Bergen County, the 1876 Taylor Bliss House of Englewood travelled two awe-inspiring miles across town for an historical move that started June 22, 2023.
The 50 year old Englewood Historical Society, a 501c3, heroically shepherded its journey to its new home at Eleanor Harvey Park at 500 Liberty Road.
After weeks of prep work by the skilled workers of S.J. Hauck, the house was cut into 5 pieces as residents from around the county watched and cheered for 4 days, joined by Eyewitness News, Channel 4, the Record, the Suburbanite, the Jewish Standard, Northern Valley Press, and 201 Magazine.
Renamed Englewood House, it will be a showplace and a visual reminder of Englewood's historic past, a homebase for the Englewood Historical Society and the Englewood Environmental Commission, and a resource center hosting exhibits, talks, and research, utilized and celebrated by residents of the city and well beyond.
